Phyllis Harmon

Our new Department Treasurer is Phyllis Harmon from Auxiliary 6060 in Elizabeth City. Phyllis joined the Auxiliary in 1973 on the eligibility of her first husband Edwin Caywood, a US Navy veteran of WW II. She joined in Auxiliary 1 in Denver, Colorado. After the death of Edwin, she later married Bernie Harmon, another Navy veteran, and transferred to Auxiliary 4171 in Golden, Colorado. In 1990, she and Bernie moved to North Carolina, first transferring to Auxiliary 7312 in Sunbury, and later 6060 in Elizabeth City, where she has been Auxiliary Treasurer for many years.

Phyllis was very active in the Auxiliary in Colorado, serving in many positions at the Department level. In NC, she has served as Dept Chief-of-Staff (1999-2000), and Chairman of Special Project in 2000-01 and VFW-PAC (2002-03). Phyllis has served on the Budget committee and the Audit Committee many years, several times as the Chairman. She served as NC Dist 1 President in 1999-2000, when she was named District President of the year, and was elected as Department Guard, and served through all of the chairs. Phyllis served as NC Department President in 2005-06, where she earned the honor of Runner-up Outstanding Department President of the year.

Well versed in accounting, Phyllis is has been in the field since 1969, and is currently the Account and Office Manager for Homebuyers Inspections in Virginia Beach. Her job allows her the time to perform her new duties as Treasurer.

Phyllis' son Justin is a Junior at NC State University in Raleigh. Her husband Bernie passed away in 2005, just months prior to her becoming Department President.
